| Background information: | Mouse monoclonal antibody to CRE-recombinase, clone 2CRE-2D8 recognizes bacteriophage P1 derived CRE recombinase. The epitope is located between AA 77 and 343. It is a tyrosine recombinase enzyme that exerts a topoisomerase I like mechanism to carry out site specific recombination events. The cre-recombinase is a part of the integrase family of site specific recombinase and it catalyzes site-specific recombination between two DNA recognition sites (loxP sites). Its function is to preserve the phage genome as a monomeric unit-copy plasmid in the lysogenic state. Cre recombinase is a broadly used tool in the molecular biology area to manipulate genes and chromosomes in a wide range of research. This antibody can be used to find out the success of gene manipulations in transgenic animals. |
