Description: Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (ICAM-1) also known as CD54 has 7 potential N-linked glycosylation sites. It is a single chain membrane glycoprotein present on the surface of a multiple non-hematopoietic and hematopoietic cell types and has a function in signal transduction, cell signaling and lymphocyte adhesion. ICAM-1 mediates cell adhesion by binding to integrin CD11a/CD18 (leukocyte adhesion molecule, LFA-1) and to CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1). Soluble ICAM-1 is found in a biologically active form in serum and is elevated in patients with diversified inflammatory conditions.
