Description: Interleukin 33 (IL33) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL33 gene, it is a part of the IL-1 family and the protein is involved in the maturation of T helper 2 (Th2) cells inducing the secretion of T-helper type 2-associated cytokines. It acts also as a chemo-attractant for Th2. IL33 is a ligand for ST2 an IL-1 family receptor that is highly expressed on Th2 cells, mast cells and group 2 innate lymphocytes. IL33 is expressed by a large variety of cell types as fibroblasts, dendritic cells, epithelial cells, macrophages etc. IL33 has been related with multiples disease as asthma, allergy, endometriosis and hay fever.
